Today we examined run-on sentences and three ways to fix them:
We prepared for our Bunraku play which we will present on Monday. 8A is going to present to 8B and 8B will present to 8A. If you haven't received a second novel study tracking sheet, pick one up from me. The first three check-ins are due on Monday. I'll be collecting your work and reviewing it. Remember to stay up-to-date with deadlines by using the calendar on this site (link in the upper right hand corner).

This morning, the 8B's painted the base coat for our puppet heads.
8A's reviewed some of the common errors found in their recent essays. The two most prevalent errors were run-on sentences and inconsistent tense. We'll be working on these aspects of writing in the days to come. Both classes reviewed the Social Studies test from yesterday. Many students did not have their reading/tracking sheet complete for today, so we had time in class to complete that. I reminded students to check the calendar for all the check-in dates in the next few weeks.
We wrote our Chapter 4 Social Studies test on Edo Japan. Everyone should have a novel selected for their novel study. Based on the reading you did in class today and any reading you do at home this evening, you should determine if the books is a good fit for you. A good fit means that you are interested in reading your book and is provides a little challenge (some new vocabulary, some complex sentences). If you are getting stuck regularly, the book is likely too difficult. If you are not not getting stuck at all, just smooth sailing, it may be too easy for you.
We'll have our Social Studies test on Monday. The calendar is updated with Novel Study Check-in Dates. It was wonderful to see everyone after the break. It sounds like people had lots of fun: some vacations, some time with friends & family, video games, Netflix... Today we had our narrators read our Bunraku script aloud. Students gave feedback and our script supervisors got to work tweaking. Our musical group got together and practiced the background music for the play. Most students were designing puppet bodies by trial and error. We'll put another week's worth of effort into these plays and then present them to the grade 7's. Our Social Studies test has been rescheduled to Monday, April 9th. Please send in a fun picture for our classroom wall if you haven't already.
